Weather you are looking to keep the party going after an amazing night out in Panama or maybe just start a Saturday nice and slow…Brunch is the way to go! And man, do we have some amazing brunch spots in Panama.
As a guy in real estate, folks are always asking me for restaurant recommendations so I decided to put together this list of my favorite brunch spots in Panama.
I’ve tried to include a pretty good variety of brunch spots…from super local (Trapiche) to upscale and mostly foreigners (American Trade) that has something for everyone.
Buen provecho!!
Mahalo
@Mahalo
Mahalo is a favorite brunch destination for residents and visitors alike. Located in Casco Viejo, Panama City’s historic landmark, Mahalo has something for everyone and has hit the mark in providing the perfect brunch atmosphere.
It all starts with their famous watermelon mimosas (don’t worry, traditional mimosas with orange juice are also available). This fresh cocktail is the perfect complement to the restaurant’s tropical atmosphere and pairs well with any of the delicious food offerings. Bagel sandwiches, smoothies, and fresh salads are favorites, as are freshly squeezed juices.
The focus on fresh ingredients makes Mahalo a great option for those looking for a brunch that won’t send you into an immediate food coma.
The patio is the perfect oasis to start your weekend. With board games and live music, this friendly cafe allows you to enjoy brunch well into the afternoon.
The Santa Maria, a Collection Hotel & Golf Resort
If you don’t know, now you know. The Santa María opened its doors in February 2018 and hosts the legendary Sunday brunches that are an absolute must.
Your delicious brunch journey begins upon arrival at their incredible buffet featuring healthy and hearty options such as sushi, raw oysters, dim sum, grilled meats and freshly baked breads.
Fill your plate and take a seat in the casual yet intimate dining room where you can enjoy AYCD’s mimosas—yes, that’s right, bottomless mimosas. The best solution for Sunday brunch.
Casa Sucre Coffeehouse
@Casa Sucre Coffeehouse
This eclectically decorated café in the heart of Casco Viejo is an ideal spot for brunch after a morning stroll through the historic site. There are great sandwiches and pastries, but our favorite here are the tamales. That, and the phenomenal coffee. Casa Sucre is the perfect casual place to have a delicious breakfast without all the production of a formal brunch. While the menu is limited, the coffee alone is worth the trip and what they offer is expertly prepared.
Tío Navaja
This charming destination in Casco Viejo is best known as an intimate spot for a delicious dinner, but it also serves a brunch menu that doesn’t disappoint.
The cozy dining room is the perfect place to meet friends or enjoy a meal with the family. None of this is pretentious, but the decor is elegant and comfortable. There are plenty of fantastic breakfast and lunch options on the menu, all of which should be washed down with a high-quality coffee. Looking for something stronger to accompany your poached eggs? Their mimosas are also spot on!
Las Clementinas
@Las Clementinas
Las Clementinas is an old apartment building that has been transformed into short-stay apartments. On the ground floor there is a cafe of the same name that offers delicious food for guests and non-guests, the perfect place for a healthy brunch. The indoor cafe is adorable, but if you have the option, sit on the patio for the perfect dining experience. The menu offers gourmet brunch dishes including some lighter options. There are also a number of brunch cocktails to choose from that won’t disappoint.
El Trapiche
@El Trapiche
If you like the idea of brunch but don’t like the hype, then consider enjoying a weekend breakfast at El Trapiche. This is a simple Panamanian restaurant in El Cangrejo that has been serving traditional favorites for decades. Portions are large, prices are reasonable and this is the perfect place to try your local favorites. Don’t miss the sancocho or the homemade empanadas to start your day without any of the hassle that sometimes accompanies brunch.
American Trade Hotel
@American Trade Hotel
Without a doubt, this is the most sophisticated and charming brunch option in the city. Located in the heart of Casco Viejo, the American Trade Hotel has an impeccable façade and interior that is a true delight to the eye. This charm doesn’t stop in the dining room where Sunday brunch is offered. There are plenty of breakfast and lunch options to choose from, but don’t miss the mac and cheese with grilled shrimp. Add to that a bubbly mimosa and live music, and you can while away a few hours in the beautiful atmosphere of this stunning hotel. Health!
Roadsters Diner
When you come to Roadsters, prepare to be transported back to 1950’s America. The dining room is decked out in authentic American decor that will make you feel like you’re in the movie Grease. This atmosphere makes it the perfect place for a fun and whimsical brunch. On top of that, the food is delicious and decadent, so come hungry. With many traditional breakfast favorites, bacon and eggs can be had in a variety of ways, there are also many lunch options available. Whatever you do, don’t skip one of their fantastic smoothies. Roadsters is a great brunch destination for kids, but adults will have a great time too and leave more than satisfied.
MentirasBlancas
Mentiritas Blancas is one of our favorite brunch destinations in El Cangrejo. This casual cafe offers plenty of brunch favorites at reasonable prices.
If you’re in the mood for something tasty, the breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, and empanadas are stellar. There are also plenty of delicious baked goods to try for those with a sweet tooth (don’t miss the red velvet cookies).
Vegan options are also available, making this destination enjoyable for those who enjoy various dining preferences. This cozy cafe can get busy on weekends, so be prepared to wait a bit. However, it is worth it for the delicious food and the best quality coffee in Panama City.
Still hungry? There you have some of our favorite brunch offerings in Panama City. Be sure to set aside some time next weekend to enjoy a leisurely brunch with friends and family. With so many great places to try, you’ll want to make it part of your weekend routine.
