As Panama expects more business and leisure travelers from China, a codeshare flight agreement is in the works between Copa Airlines and Air China.
The talks between the two airlines follow on the heels of an announcement made during President Varela’s inaugural state visit to the Chinese capital in November, when the two countries signed a bilateral civil aviation agreement and indicated that they’d soon be coordinating their first flights from Beijing to Panama City (with a layover in Houston).
A codeshare flight agreement would be a boon not only for Panama’s airports, but, given the lack of good regional connections to China generally, for travelers to and from Latin America more broadly. Expect coordinated schedules as Air China connects to Copa’s network, particularly with flights to/from Peru, Colombia and the Caribbean.
