Pedasi travelers pleased be advised that this coming Friday, November 25th through Sunday November 27th Pedasi’s main square will be accessible only to foot traffic during peak daylight hours for the annual Pedasi Folklore Festival (Festival Folclórico de Pedasí) which highlights the customs and traditions of the region. Each year residents and tourists gather to witness the festivities including a caravan of horse and cattle-drawn carriages ornately decorated with scenes of the traditional pastoral lifestyles unique to the Azuero Peninsula and culiminating with Pedasi’s version of Pamplona’s running of the bulls (toro suelto). Please be aware that once the parade has been completed the running of the bulls will take place as several bulls are released in Pedasí’s main square. There is very little crowd control so please stay safe!
This year’s festival will also feature a competition between local viloinists as homage to Francisco “Chico Purio” Ramírez, a famous local musician from Purio de Pedasi. If you plan on being in Pedasi then you should definitely come and have stroll around to take in the sights and sounds of the region while you get to know the Pedasi community.

The Pedasi Colorido and murals project is community-led, grassroots beautification initiative aimed at highlighting the amazing architecture typical of the Azuero region. Over the past several months a growing group of volunteers has painted over 40 homes and storefronts around the several blocks that radiate out from the main square of Pedasi. The mural component came as sort of an offshoot of the painting initiative, but has since coalesced into a movement of its own with 7 large murals now adorning store sides and open spaces, created by some of the area’s most talented artists. Be sure to check out our new town mascots; the giant sea turtle behind the large grocery store on Main St., the colorful Carnaval owl a couple blocks down, or the migrating humpbacks another block further. Both initiatives have caught the eye of the national news networks and are just two more reasons to include Pedasi on your travel itinerary.
The Giant Sea Turtle
In addition to the standard variety of fun Pedasi activities (kayaking, surfing, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, zip line canopy tours, etc), on any given day you can either join in on a midnight patrol along the local beaches to spot nesting sea turtles, help with area an reforestation project, spend some time with the surfers at a beach cleanup, pick through some vintage gear at a local flea market, or snap photos of one of the many cultural parades that caravan down Main Street.
