Puerta del Mar Casco Viejo
Puerta del Mar is a beautifully restored building located on Avenida Demetrio Brid, it has only 3 apartments and 3 floors. On the ground floor is the Casco Mar Restaurant.
The building was named in honor of the oceanfront wall of ancient Panama City that bordered the coastline. In that sector and near the Presidential Palace was Puerta del Mar, one of the entrances to the city protected by the wall.
Although it is no longer clearly seen, due to new buildings near the Presidency, in some sectors there is part of the old wall. Currently, there is a small square in what was the access to the door.
From this sector there is a clear vision of the new city of Panama, now interrupted by the Cinta Costera 3, a marine corridor that borders the Old Town, blurring what in the past was the landscape offered by the South Sea.
The location is excellent: steps from the most visited destinations in Panama’s historic Casco Viejo: the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral Square, the National Theater, and Las Bóvedas. This property is also strategically close to the new Amador Convention Center, public parking, and the future tram line traversing the historic district.
Casco Viejo
Welcome to Casco Viejo, the historic core of Panama City! Founded in 1673, Casco Viejo is a small peninsula at one end of the Cinta Costera.
This neighborhood oozes history, culture, gastronomy, and charm. Here you will find cocktail lounges, rooftop bars, and award-winning restaurants all hidden away within stunning colonial buildings of every color.
Living in Casco Viejo is like you are in a little oasis and the whole area is pleasantly walkable. That said, you’re still close enough that you can get into the heart of the city in about 15 minutes. Many residents actually live here and commute elsewhere for work. Also, via the Cinta Costera, you can walk or bike directly to the city center.
People from all walks of life are drawn to the rich history, local culture, and unparalleled beauty of the area. With that, many international buyers have become more enchanted with the city’s historic heart. This means that Casco Viejo is home to a diverse mix of residents, both locals, and ex-pats.
In Casco Viejo, you’re unlikely to find a rooftop pool, gym, or elevator in any of the buildings here. Most of the homes on the market are two or three-story walk-ups or apartments in small buildings. However, residents of the area are very happy to trade luxury conveniences for the unique charm of Casco Viejo. What the homes may lack in modern amenities, they more than make up for in character.
