Welcome to Clayton!

Welcome to Clayton! One of Panama City’s most unique neighborhoods and home to the US Embassy. Panama’s Clayton neighborhood is a part of the former Panama Canal Zone, and is considered by many locals and expats to be one of the best neighborhoods for families.

The Lowdown on Clayton Real Estate

Real Estate in Clayton is characterized by large single-family and duplex homes, many of which were officer quarters during the US presence in Panama. You can also find small condos for sale in the City of Knowledge area (Ciudad de Saber) which is considered to be a part of Clayton.

There are several developments in the Clayton area, including Embassy Club, Clayton Villages, Embassy Gardens, and several others. The name “Embassy” is used quite frequently in Clayton because the US Embassy is located there.

The most well known gated community in Panama is the Embassy Club, located in the middle of Clayton. The Embassy Club has a great central community area where residents can enjoy the use of a large swimming pool, gym, spa, and small café.

There are several other housing developments in Clayton, but the Embassy Club is the most well known and is considered to be one of the most high-end residences in Panama.

What to Expect in Clayton

Is Clayton the right place for you? There’s no doubt that Clayton is a desirable area to live in and, as such, is highly sought after in terms of real estate.

Clayton is especially popular with expats who work at the City of Knowledge or at any of the other international corporations and organizations located in or around Clayton. There are certainly people who live in Clayton and commute to work in other parts of the city, but there’s no doubt that one of the most valued aspects of Clayton is its proximity to work for the thousands of people who are employed by organizations in the area.

Since the organizations affiliated with the City of Knowledge employ people from around the world, it’s no surprise that Clayton is very popular with expats. The majority of expats who call Clayton home are professionals and families. On any given weekend you’ll likely see people out with their kids or walking their dog.

Another appeal for families is that Clayton is home to Panama City’s best schools including King’s College, Balboa Academy, the Metropolitan School of Panama, and the Isaac Rabin School. With work and school within close proximity, many families who choose to call Clayton home rarely have to venture outside of the neighborhood.

Most residents who choose Clayton as their home do so because they feel it affords them a great quality of life in an interesting and visually beautiful part of the city, that is often close to work and school. Beyond that, though, Clayton provides much more. For those who enjoy being outdoors, Clayton offers plenty of open space to enjoy activities such as biking and jogging.

While Clayton is nowhere near as densely packed with residences and businesses as many other areas of Panama, there are still dozens of restaurants for residents to enjoy. Many of the dining options in Clayton are congregated in two main areas.

The first is at La Plaza, which is located within the City of Knowledge. La Plaza is an open-air shopping center where Clayton residents often run errands or spend an afternoon visiting with friends. There are a dozen or so restaurants offering everything from burgers to French cafe fare, to Chinese food. There is even a playground for children to use while their parents eat.

Another area with plenty of restaurants is along Calle al Hospital just outside of the City of Knowledge. Here you’ll find a string of dining options from casual cafes and brewpubs to sushi or Thai food. So while the Clayton dining scene only offers a small slice of the restaurants available in Panama City as a whole, it’s a diverse slice that keeps residents happy.

The same can be said about the options for shopping in Clayton. For groceries, there are a handful of smaller shops where you can take care of most of your household needs. Within the City of Knowledge, Deli Market and Cafe and the Royal Gourmet Shop both offer residents with a limited selection of grocery staples. These stores mostly feature packaged food, beverages, and basic household products, and have a limited assortment of fresh foods as well.

Outside of the City of Knowledge, there are a handful of other smaller-scale supermarkets, but for a large grocery store, you’ll need to venture a bit further.
